Disposition is a memoir of self-reflection - delving into moods, spirits and emotional outlooks. But what happens when we uncover the internal unknown?
Unmasking my own internal reflections, this series explores my deep seeded ethnic background and connection to the Dholou (Lou) people of Kenya, where I was born and raised for the first half of my life.
Growing up in Kenya I was immersed in an array of ethnicity, culture, and tribal tradition. The community of women who raised me will forever be embedded in my identity as a Lou person.
The loss of my mother in my childhood had me reformulate my identity and I found a sense of belonging in the unknown.
A change in country, a country that doesn't identify with my ethnicity, sees the memories of my mother tongue distort and fade as years pass by.
A desire to reconnect with my motherland, in this series uses motions of linework to rehatch memories. The duality of figures and faces and their evident emotions asks you to reflect on your own personal identity.
An experience of ethnic community and belonging, in this series is a connection through curiosity to the unknown.
